Shopify App: WhatsApp for Your Store

Run WhatsApp messaging for your Shopify store from directly inside Shopify admin — no separate site to manage.

The Shopify app brings WhatsApp Cloud into your Shopify admin, billed through Shopify itself. Once installed, a Dashboard screen gives you an at-a-glance view of your connection, plan, and storefront widget status, plus screens for Abandoned Carts, Order Notifications, Automation, and Widget settings — all without leaving Shopify. Two native additions run directly inside Shopify's own interface: a storefront chat button you enable from the theme editor, and a WhatsApp status block right on the Order details page.

Install from Shopify admin

Add the app to your Shopify store and connect your WhatsApp Business number.

  1. Install the app from your Shopify admin like any other Shopify app.
  2. Follow the on-screen prompts to connect your WhatsApp Business number.
  3. Once connected, you'll land on the Dashboard — your home screen inside Shopify.
Every merchant starts on the Free plan automatically — no separate signup step.

Dashboard: your connection at a glance

See your plan, connected WhatsApp number, and whether your storefront widget and abandoned-cart reminders are turned on.

  1. Open the app from Shopify admin — Dashboard is the first screen you see.
  2. Check the Subscription card for your plan and connected WhatsApp number.
  3. Check the Status card for your connection health and which features are currently on.

Add the WhatsApp chat button to your storefront

A floating WhatsApp button on your storefront, enabled natively through your theme editor — no code to copy or paste.

  1. In Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes.
  2. On your current theme, click Customize.
  3. In the theme editor, select App embeds from the left sidebar.
  4. Turn on "WhatsApp Chat Button", then click Save.
This reuses the same widget configured on the Widget screen — nothing to set up twice.

Customize the chat button

Configure the welcome message, button text, and colors used by the storefront chat button.

  1. Open Widget from the left-hand navigation.
  2. Edit the header text, welcome message, button text, and colors.
  3. Save — changes apply immediately to the storefront button.

WhatsApp status on your orders

See and trigger WhatsApp order-status notifications directly from the Order details page in Shopify admin.

  1. Open any order in Shopify admin.
  2. Look for the "WhatsApp" block, showing that order's notification status.
  3. Where a message template is set up for that stage, click Send update to notify the customer instantly.

Automatic order status updates

Automatically message customers as their order moves through confirmed, processing, out for delivery, and delivered.

  1. Open Order Notifications from the left-hand navigation.
  2. Turn on the stages you want automated and pick an approved template for each.
  3. Each stage is off by default and independent of the others.

Abandoned cart reminders

See a list of carts abandoned in the last hour or more and send a WhatsApp reminder with one click.

  1. Open Abandoned Carts from the left-hand navigation.
  2. Turn on reminders for your store.
  3. Pick an approved template and send a reminder to any cart in the list.

Manage contacts, templates & campaigns

Everything beyond what's built into Shopify — contacts, message templates, campaigns, team members, and more — lives in your full WhatsApp dashboard.

  1. Click "Go to full dashboard" in the top-right corner of any screen.
  2. Your complete WhatsApp workspace opens in a new tab and signs you in automatically — no separate login required.
On a shared or public computer, log out of the dashboard before closing the tab.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Shopify billing separate from a direct WhatsApp Cloud subscription?

Yes — a Shopify install is billed entirely through Shopify's own billing system, with its own plan tiers. It's independent of a direct (non-Shopify) subscription.

Why isn't the WhatsApp button showing on my storefront?

Make sure "WhatsApp Chat Button" is turned on in your theme editor under App embeds — it's off by default until you enable it there, even after installing the app.

Why don't I see the WhatsApp block on an order?

The block only appears once your WhatsApp number is connected. If it's still missing, reopen the order page — Shopify occasionally needs a refresh to load newly enabled app blocks.

How do I manage contacts, message templates, or campaigns from Shopify?

Use "Go to full dashboard" from any screen — it opens your complete WhatsApp workspace, signed in automatically, where contacts, templates, campaigns, and team management all live.

Do I need to reconnect my WhatsApp number separately inside Shopify?

No — connecting your WhatsApp Business number during install is a one-time step. The Dashboard screen shows its current status at any time.
