WhatsApp Business Messaging Services
What this section covers
Techmits offers a WhatsApp Business messaging platform ("the Service") that lets businesses connect their own WhatsApp Business Account (via Meta's WhatsApp Cloud API) to send and receive messages with their customers, run automated replies, and manage customer conversations. This section explains what data we collect and how we handle it as part of that Service, in addition to the general practices described elsewhere in this Privacy Policy.
Information we collect
From businesses using the Service ("Account Owners"):
Account registration details: email address, password (stored as a one-way cryptographic hash, never in plaintext)
WhatsApp Business Account information obtained through Meta's Embedded Signup process: WhatsApp Business Account ID, phone number ID, and a Meta-issued access token authorizing us to send/receive messages on your behalf
Business profile information you provide (business name, contact details)
From end customers messaging a connected WhatsApp number:
Phone number (in WhatsApp's standard format)
Profile name as set in the customer's WhatsApp account
Message content (text, media, and interactive message data) sent to or received from the connected business number
Message delivery metadata (timestamps, delivery/read status) provided by Meta's webhook notifications
Opt-in/opt-out status and the history of consent-related events (e.g., a customer texting "STOP" to unsubscribe from promotional messages)
How we use this information
To deliver the core Service: routing messages between businesses and their customers via Meta's WhatsApp Cloud API
To provide automated reply features, where enabled by an Account Owner, which may involve processing message content through a third-party AI service (OpenAI) to generate a response. This only happens for accounts that have explicitly enabled this feature.
To maintain delivery status and conversation history within each business's own message inbox
To honor opt-out requests and maintain a consent audit trail
To detect and prevent abuse (e.g., spam or policy-violating use of the messaging platform)
How we store and protect this information
WhatsApp access tokens and other per-account secrets are encrypted at the database column level (ActiveRecord::Encryption, AES-based) — never stored in plaintext, never logged
Data is stored in a database accessible only to Techmits' application infrastructure, not shared with other Account Owners on the platform (each business's data is isolated from every other business using the Service)
Access to the underlying infrastructure is restricted to authorized Techmits personnel
Sharing with third parties
Meta / WhatsApp: message content and delivery data necessarily passes through Meta's WhatsApp Cloud API, as the underlying transport for all WhatsApp messaging — see Meta's Privacy Policy for how Meta processes this data on their end
OpenAI: only for Account Owners who explicitly enable AI-powered auto-reply, message content is sent to OpenAI's API to generate a response — see OpenAI's Privacy Policy
We do not sell customer or business data to third parties, and do not share it for third-party advertising purposes
Data retention
Message history and contact data are retained for as long as an Account Owner maintains an active connection through the Service, so businesses can access their own conversation history
An Account Owner may request deletion of their account and associated data; upon disconnection, WhatsApp access tokens are invalidated and removed
Consent/opt-out records are retained as an audit trail even after other data is deleted, to demonstrate compliance with a customer's opt-out request
Your rights
End customers may opt out of receiving messages from a business at any time by replying with the business's designated stop keyword, or by contacting the business directly
Account Owners may request export or deletion of their account's data by contacting us at the details below
